"Beautiful gite in great, peaceful location"

We have just returned from a week in walnut cottage. The four gites, despite being situated together around a (beautiful) courtyard, offer real privacy and all have their own enormous private garden with stone BBQ. Walnut cottage is very comfortable with everything you need. Well equipped kitchen and comfy lounge downstairs. Two bedrooms and nice bathroom upstairs. The tiled floor and small windows keep it nice and cool too. There is so much to see in the area and the roads are quiet. We visited picturesque village and port of la Roche Bernard with its many creperies and artisanal shops, la Gacilly is similar with the addition of the Yves Rocher museum (really good tour), beaches at pornic , la noeveillard and damgan are lovely. Rochforte en terre is stunning with great photo opportunities. A cooler day took us to the car museum in loheac which my husband really enjoyed!! To be fair it was a well stocked and we'll laid out museum with hundreds of cars and he did accompany my daughter and I to Yves Rocher! All in all a super place to holiday - great food, local cider. Wine prices still great. The superU supermarket in guemene panfao stocks a great range - great bakery and cheese selection.
Tony and Maria are great hosts. Very approachable and friendly. They provide great folders with really useful details of everywhere you can visit.
If you need to wind down and also want to easily explore some beautiful places this is an ideal and tranquil place to stay.

“Absolutely perfect holiday location”

Just got back from Walnut Cottage at Paimbu and had to jump straight on here to review the place. Spent a wonderful week here with my partner and our two small children and will definitely be booking to go back as soon as we can!
Paimbu is a tiny hamlet just outside Masserac, a small town typical of those found throughout Brittany. Peaceful and quiet, the only sound at night is the chirruping of crickets and the odd buzzing of a fly from outside.
The cottage is compact, but was perfect for what we needed. Outside, the large enclosed (and gated!) garden was perfect for the children to run off excessive energy and equipped with an outside barbecue and covered seating area to seat four. Each cottage on site (there are four) have their own private gardens.
The weather was scorching hot and we found the cottage to be our cool haven, with it's tiled floor and comfortable furnishings it was lovely to come back to after a day exploring the area. The kitchen had every utensil required; kettle, toaster, gas stove / oven, combination microwave / grill, fridge / freezer, every type of pan imaginable and enough crockery / cutlery for 12 to eat! A lovely touch was the plastic Ikea dinner sets for toddlers and small children to save worries about our two toddlers breaking the nice china plates! .
The cottage is perfectly (but not intrusively) set up for young children, with a bed guard supplied (but not installed) high chair available and stair guards both at the top and bottom of the stair-case.
Upstairs the two bedrooms are a good size and very well presented. A twin room with velux window (and tiny character window in the front of the building) gave plenty of room (and storage) for our two kids, the double room with a Juliet balcony was perfect for our needs as well. A comfortable bed, well presented, with ample storage for what we needed as well made for an excellent nights sleep.
There are several bikes available for exploring the surrounding area and we made good use of them. The cottage is close to the river Villaine which has a great cycle that we explored thoroughly during our time here. We found the local residents friendly, helpful and very welcoming. So sad to come home, but can't wait to come back again.

"Perfect countryside escape”

My husband and I along with our 8 month old son stayed here for a week in July this year. The gite is located just outside a quaint village which has a bakery (less than 5 mins cycle) and tabac. We would visit the bakery in the morning and enjoyed sitting in the cottage's beautiful (and very large) garden to have our breakfast. The gite is perfectly equipped with everything you would need for self-catering. Big fridge, oven and gas stove, lots of crockery and cutlery as well as picnic and bbq equipment. The charcoal bbq outside is a good size and we really enjoyed the peaceful al fresco dining. The gite has a spacious living area with plenty of seating as well as TV with UK channels and a good hi-fi system. We took an HDMI cable and were able to connect this to the tv to watch a few shows we had brought. There are two good-sized double rooms on the first floor, the master with lovely french doors which we kept open at night to keep us cool. The second is perfect for young children and Maria and Tony provided a comfy cot for our baby. Tony and Maria provide extensive information in the gite, organised in folders, describing attractions in the local area. This information was very navigable and we used it like a bible every evening to decide what we wanted to do the next day. There are countless things to do in the local area, including swimming lakes, beautiful towns, beaches (around an hours drive), chateaux and lots of country markets. There are many bikes to borrow at the gite and we were able to put our son on the back of a bike using the baby seat. Around a 10 minute cycle and you will reach the beautiful River Villaine where you can cycle along the towpath to Redon. This is a very peaceful area and provided us with just the kind of holiday we were after - a week of lovely food, relaxing and pottering about. Thank you to Maria and Tony for a fantastic stay.

"Fantastic holiday gite"

A wonderful warm welcome from Maria and Tony set the scene for a great holiday.
They live on site and are always available to answer any questions that couldn’t be answered by the comprehensive information pack in the cottage.
The gite was great, very clean and well appointed with washing machine and good internet connection.
It’s in a very quiet little village in Brittany but there’s plenty to do- either on foot, on the bikes available at the gite or further afield by car.
So, the gite is great, the friendly and knowledgeable owners live on site, and there’s just so much to do locally and further afield if needed - what are you waiting for ??

“Brilliant holiday base”

We have been holidaying at Paimbu for over 20 years now, and never tire of the peace and quiet of the place.
The fires are in a really rural part of Brittany, yet close to so many places to visit - beaches, restaurants etc etc
Maria and Tony, the friendly owners, live on site so are always available to give advice on places to visit, things to do etc Having bikes allows you to explore the beautiful local area. The nearby river has a cycle path alongside, the roads are very quiet compared to the UK, and there are so many cafes and small restaurants (check out the 'menu ouvrier' which is just incredible value at lunchtime) that you'll be hard pressed to run out of things to do and places to go. We would recommend La Cour without hesitation. Once you've stayed you'll want to keep coming back.

“A little gem in gorgeous countryside”

This location is for you if you enjoy peace and quiet, countryside and wildlife whilst enjoying a comfortable place to stay with great hosts. Owners Maria and Tony (English but speak French too) have lived in the area for a long while and are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet. They have accommodation away from the gites but are close at hand if you need them and they can give lots of advice on the area - where to walk, eat, etc. Do ask to go and see their delightful pygmy goats and the chickens! The cottage has free wi-fi and British TV channels - the kitchen is well-equipped and the seating and beds are very comfortable. It was spotlessly clean. There are four gites of differing sizes but each has its own substantial and private garden space with outdoor seating and barbecue. There are lawns for each gite large enough for children to play. Cycles are provided for all ages and there are lots of lovely walks straight from the cottage including the local marais (marshland) with coypu and bird-life such as harriers and kingfishers.

Nearby there are lots of attractions: La Gacilly with its summer outdoor photography exhibition is a must, along with a trip to the 'Vegetarium' cafe at the Yves Rocher centre (some vegetarian meals, but also meat and fish). There is a fascinating Museum of the Breton Resistance in World War Two at St Marcel, near Malestroit. Rochefort-en-terre is a scenic little medieval village with shops and cafes in abundance.

A little further afield La Grande Briere - nearly 100,000 acres of wetland - is a protected area where you can learn about the history of the people living there - their flat punts which they used to hunt and to move livestock around the marshes - the orange blossom waxing industry which made bridal head-dresses for a lot of European brides - the little houses thatched with reeds from the Marais. You can ride a horse or take a trip in a punt or walk out on to the Marais. You will almost certainly see Marsh Harriers and Hen Harriers and other water and wading birds. If you are lucky (as we were) you'll see an otter.

Guerande is a medieval walled town with walkable ramparts, but more interesting are the sea salt marshes nearby. The visitors centre has a fascinating film of how the salt is made (English subtitles) and an exhibition. There is also a shop of local produce and you can buy any quantity of this exceptional sea salt to take home. Again, there is a lot of birdlife on the marshes including black-winged stilts and avocets.

The beaches on the Atlantic coast are some of the cleanest we have come across. We recommend La Turballe for beach-combing, but we loved Piriac-sur-Mer too which also has plenty of choice for eating (Le Keroman gallettes are great!).

For a wet day - or somewhere different, especially for children - the Ocearium (aquarium) at Le Croisic is great - make sure you see the sharks being fed.

All of the places mentioned above are with an hour's drive from the cottage. We could have gone further afield to Vannes or Nantes, but there was plenty to do and see locally. This is a delightfully undiscovered area and we highly recommend it and La Cour Cottages are the perfect base.

"A lovely break in the Loire-Atlantic area"

We stayed in Walnut Cottage for a week in mid September, picking this Gite as it was in our preferred area for exploration of the coastal Loire area.
On arrival it was obvious that Tony and Maria were great hosts.
The cottage was just as we imagined it form the photos and the side garden was huge, facing the setting Sun.
Our enjoyed our stay immensely and would definatly return if (when) we re-visit the area.
We would recommend Walnut Cottage to anyone who wants a relaxing break near the Atlantic coast or just wants to explore the wonderful villages and towns inland.

"Charming Cottage in delightfully quiet hamlet"

We stayed in Walnut Cottage in early July. A road trip from Calais brought us nearly to the door, however Tony was on hand with his bicycle to guide us in the last 50 yards! From the moment we met Maria and Tony we knew we were going to enjoy our time there. Friendly, helpful and most welcoming they had thought of everything to help newcomers to the area get started. We had a wonderful few days exploring the area, doing villages and towns, markets and beaches and of course watching the euro 2016 football as it entered its final matches, in the evenings.
We had a go on the complementary bikes available and also walked into Masserac in the morning for fresh bread. A wonderfully rural area with farming at the heart of enterprise, it is very pleasing to the eye and the roads are fabulous, not a pot hole in sight!
The cottage is lovely, comfortable and has everything you need for your time there. The garden is huge, very private and has a barbecue and eating area. We went to have some time out from the usual rush of work and re charge our batteries and we did.
Liked best, the peace and quiet and the very warm welcome, liked least, the local French markets start to close at 12.30, so you have to get up early or you miss them!!
Well done Maria and Tony, your hospitality and helpfulness is wonderful.

“A wonderfully relaxing place to stay”

We have stayed for a week at Walnut cottage almost every year for the last 16 years, and every time we cannot believe how wonderfully relaxing it is to stay in this part of Brittany. In the past we have driven there, but this time cycled from Roscoff - four easy days cycling on very quiet roads. From the moment you arrive, to a very friendly greeting from Tony & Maria, the cottage and large private garden tell you the week is going to be a great relaxing break. The cottage itself is well equipped with plenty of room for 4 people. It always seems to be warm and sunny for us (we've stayed in February, April, May, September and October), but the wood burner means that even if the weather turns colder you can stay warm indoors. The private garden is very quiet, and with the deckchairs provided allows you to catch up on those unread books before firing up the barbeque ! At night the absence of street lighting lets you star gaze in absolute wonderment. Paimbu is a very quiet hamlet, but restaurants (of amazing value), shops, supermarkets and swimming pools are all close at hand; beaches and a wide selection of places to visit ( with or without children) are a relatively short drive away. Alternatively, just use the bicycles available for free to explore the local area including a route along the nearby river. Tony & Maria live 'on site' and are always around to help with any queries or advice on places to visit - nothing is too much trouble for them it seems! So, if you want a chance to escape the hurly burly of the daily grind, then Paimbu is THE place to find peace and quiet; we promise you won't be disappointed.

"Peaceful retreat in Loire Atlantic"

This was the second time that we have stayed at La Cour and were not disappointed, first time was in Woodland View and this time Walnut Cottage .Everything was exactly as described, exceptionally clean, well fitted out with everything needed for a comfortable holiday. The instructions on how everything worked was very comprehensive and the guides to places to visit was very helpful. As it was early in the season we had a lovely log burning stove going each evening, Tony kept us well stocked with logs.
Vannes was our favourite place to visit but there are several pretty towns and villages not too far away.. I would not hesitate in recommending La Cour to our friends and relatives. Tony and Marie are a charming couple and nothing is too much trouble for them.

"Fantastic!"
This was the fourth visit and it just keeps getting better each time - and the first time was brilliant! The cottage is small, cosy, traditional, well appointed and you just feel at home the moment you walk in. The information packs inside are very helpful, and a quick look in the visitors` book lets you know there have been very many satisfied customers, a lot of them repeat visitors. The whole location is beautifully kept, quiet, and in a hamlet that makes no attempt to be anything but French. If real France is what you,re looking for, look no further. There are bikes on site, just help yourself, a laundry room and each of the four properties has its own private garden if you want your meal outside (you will) or a quiet day. There is so much to see locally either by cycle or just walking, but within easy reach by car are towns, villages, markets, restaurants, the coast, swimming lakes - put simply, however long your holiday, you will run out of time before you run out of things to do, rain OR shine! Maria and Tony, the owners and your hosts, are welcoming, friendly and always on hand and willing to give advice if requested. That said, they have a gift for being circumspect - they are always on hand but hardly ever seen while managing to make you feel welcome and ensuring your stay is perfect. Its an art form and they are to be congratulated for the balance that makes the place so different from others. The property would suit those looking for a quiet holiday, or those who seek more as it is all within easy distance, couples or those with children old young or in between. It is a place that effortlessly provides you a wonderful platform for you to make the holiday whatever you want it to be. In a word - fantastic!
